Cybernetic Spaces as an Approach beyond Physical Architecture

As cities have burgeoned, the delicate equilibrium between natural and artificial habitats has been disrupted, contributing to the myriad challenges confronting us today. This disbalance has given rise to an environment characterized by desaturation, exerting a profound impact on our well-being. Throughout the annals of architectural history, nature has served as a perennial muse, offering inspiration for innovations capable of elevating performance and fostering a more sustainable built environment. In my exploration, I delved into the core issues plaguing humanity, spanning environmental, social, cultural, political, and psychological dimensions, recognizing them as pivotal catalysts for global predicaments. The quest for solutions led me to contemplate the possibility that answers may lie not solely in the future but also in a reexamination of our historical roots.

The surge in technological advancements propelled cybernetics into the vernacular of everyday discourse. In my exploration, I endeavored to establish an equivalence between physical and cybernetic spaces, illustrating their shared foundational concepts of place, distance, size, and route. Originally designed to forecast the maneuvers of elusive bomber pilots, cybernetics swiftly transcended its military origins, extending its predictive capabilities to social systems and reshaping architecture into a systemic framework.

However, a peculiar turn of events saw this theory seemingly vanish from discourse, leaving no discernible imprint on ongoing practices. What if, contrary to appearances, cybernetics merely receded from explicit mention, its principles covertly embedded in the fabric of architectural methodologies? Could the challenges we face be attributed to the very practices meant to address them, and, consequently, could solutions be derived from within those practices?

The objective of this research is to unearth remnants of cybernetics within architecture, discerning how the current architectural landscape functions as an integral part of a cybernetic system. The investigation seeks to determine whether the introduction of novel cybernetic protocols can decode malfunctions within this system. The revelation suggests that cybernetic space is not an alien concept but an intrinsic element of contemporary society, offering a pathway towards sustainable development and evolution on Earth.
